Clay Pigeon - early bird gets the breaky

The Clay Pigeon does breakfast and I finally made it there! I can't be the only one out there who drives/walks/bikes by a restaurant and proceeds to act out a V8 commercial. After said head-smacks and mentions by friends, we finally pulled in there to saddle up to some breakfast fixin's.

Located right on the corner of Blanshard Street and Broughton Street, the Clay Pigeon serves up breakfast everyday, starting at 7:30. Yes, everyday (which makes my head-smack even bigger - 7 days a week - it's not like their hours were stopping me from coming). A cozy interior holds the majority of the seating - but you might luck-out (and if the sun is shining) and snag one of the spots right outside.

We plunked ourselves down inside and started breakfast off the proper way...with a....

...mimosa!

After the liquid appetizers, we ordered up some breakfast - Kale Florentine, Normal Man and Waffle Benedict. The Kale Florentine is two eggs any style (poached ordered) served with braised kale, caramelized onions & parmesan, set on top of pan-fried red potatoes and a wedge of focaccia bread. Very nice - perfectly soft, runny poached eggs and lightly braised kale went great with the bits of salty parm. The Normal Man consisted of two eggs any style (fluffy scrambled format here - yay for fluffy!), potatoes and sourdough toast - plus we added on a side of bacon.

And the third breakfast - the waffle benedict - a half waffle topped with kale and caramelized onions, served with pan fried potatoes. Great twist with the benny served on the waffle. Similar in taste to the Kale Florentine - with the creamy addition of hollandaise and the crispy waffle base.

Very nice breakfast here indeed - and a need to go back and try other items on the menu - including the breakfast sandwiches (get the McD's image out of your mind) - we saw a few being served to tables around us - and they looked fabulous. Choices include maple bacon & smoked cheddar, sage sausage & gruyere, arugula & goat cheese - all served with a free-range egg on a bond bond's bakery bun. Not in a bun mood? They also have ricotta pancakes, a mexican bean & egg dish and a ratatouille & egg dish (that a friend of mine orders whenever she's there).

We'll definitely be getting our ducks in a row to hit this pigeon again.
