Wheelies Motorcycle Cafe - high-gear it over

Located in unassuming Rock Bay 'hood (between the garages, office furniture warehouses and fastner outlets) sits Wheelies Motorcycle Cafe.  Previously an actual garage (home to an honest mechanic who worked on my car), it's been, well, transformed into a cafe-come-custom-garage-come-general-cool-moto-hangout.

Cafe on the right, custom-garage on the left.

At the cafe you can saddle up to the barstools, tuck into the booth or, if the weather is stellar, get sun-baked on their patio. Inside the space the walls are covered in rough cut wood and decorated with vintage posters, magazines and helmets. And on one wall: a small screen, with classic motorcycle movies projected onto it (think Easy Rider and the like).

The menu is simple and the food is great. Cibatta sandwiches, macaroni & cheese, a salad and a soup. They have an espresso machine (Bow & Arrows coffee - conveniently roasted two blocks away) and they're licensed too (of your sip of choice is a bourbon sour or local brew).

Onto the food!

The macaroni and cheese is simple and delicious. Made with jack cheese & garlic sauce and served piping hot (read: wait a min' before tucking in) with just the right amount of creaminess. And served with a bit of srirracha on the side to spice it up, if you like.

The grilled veggie sandwich is delicious as well - goat cheese, caramelized onions, squash and spinach. And thoughtfully put together as well - it's not roasted-veggie overloaded which end up squeezing out the sides on the first bite and make everything (mostly you) a mess.

Chicken sandwich is also a hit (made with apple slaw and sambal to accompany the chicken in-between the split cibatta).

And the grilled cheese - for those who want the basics. Melted Jack cheese with thinly sliced garlic pickles on ciabatta. Grilled long enough to melt the cheese (you'd be surprised at places that don't).

You don't need a passion for motorcycles to enjoy Wheelies. Just an appetite for a good bite to eat. But if you do need some custom motorcycle work done, well, they can do that too.
