Mosi - Breakfast, with a side of Italy

Another revolving restaurant door is about to stop with the opening of Mosi on West Saanich Rd and Prospect Lake Rd/Sparton Rd.

If you long for the fabulous'ness of the original La Collina (remember pizza and pasta nights at the original Cedar Hill location?) - then you'll want to head out for breakfast or lunch at Mosi. It's run by the same family.

Their Italian roots are authentic - there's a photo on the wall of the owner's grandmother....

...and she's standing in front of her store in Italy.

The original Mosi.....in Italy
The owner is up early baking both sweet & savoury treats to enjoy inside or take-away, as well as full loaves of bread, focaccia...

The breakfast menu (available 8-11:30am) has lovely Italian offerings (Eggs Milano, Italian toast) and some classic brunch ones (eggs, bacon & toast). On our first visit (where I forgot to take pictures), I had the Eggs Firenze with soft poached eggs on a portobello mushroom, spinach & romesco sauce, served with shredded hash browns (it was so good, I was sad when I took the last bite).

But here's what I did manage to snap with my camera:

Eggs Milano - an eggs benny with smoked salmon, capers and sliced onions, topped with hollandaise. And a Breakfast in a Bun - a fried egg (still slightly runny - yay), bacon, provolone and romanesco sauce served in a soft focaccia bun.

...and a classic breakfast - the MOSI Country breakfast - 2 eggs, bacon or sausage, toast & hasbrowns. Below are the same - but one diner at our table asked for fried tomatoes vs the toast (and we all helped ourselves to some, because they were delicious!)

Country breakfast (scrambled w/sausage)
Country breakfast (poached w/bacon, grilled toms, no toast)

and on special when we were there for a Mother's Day brunch - a crab benny of sorts (with scrambled eggs, crab and asparagus, topped with a cream crab sauce, on focaccia). Yet another cleaned plate afterwards.

Mosi's is a fabulous find - delectable baked treats, satisfying breakfasts &lunches...and gelato! I have not had theirs yet (always been too full from the meal) - but the flavours sound great - and the gelato is kept covered, in pails in the freezer. There's also a small freezer with some pints available (and occasionally gelato sandwiches too!).

รจ fantastico!
